What is P&A?

P&A stands for prints & advertising. P & A - costs can be defined as the costs of a theatrical release of a motion picture. These costs, which should not be confused with the production costs, are composed of costs for the copying of the motion picture (film prints) the technical costs for dubbing (in case of international productions) as well as of advertising, promotional- and logistic costs.
Depending on the commercial potential a motion picture can be released on 30 to 1000 screens in Germany simultaneously. Accordingly the total theatrical release costs can vary. In average one can estimate 3000.- to 5.000.- Euro P & A costs per film print. Usually the P & A costs are paid by the respective distributors of the producers.

The return of the P & A-costs results from the box office receipts and as a matter of principal in first position. From the investorsĀ“ point of view especially the short-termed capital commitment is interesting, as the P&A monies are invested not until short before the release of a film title and can be recouped after a relatively short term of 3 to 9 months after theatrical release; therefore they are available again for new investments

This offer for participations presents a business model which especially enables independent distributors and/or producers (so-called independents) to finance these theatrical release costs of their motion pictures.
